INTERN ARCHITECT: FORT WAYNE
Student Intern Job Description:
At Hoch, we value intern programs as a means to identify future employees and their involvement level in our business.
We are seeking creative problem solvers with leadership skills with skill levels in 2 distinct professional areas of interest.
DESIGN/CREATIVE/PROBLEM SOLVING
Individuals/students who are interested in developing personal interest and skill in the areas of project design, administration, and project team leadership and oversight. The student/intern must show an understanding and capability of design sensibility, knowledge and skills with graphic presentation, software expertise, architectural design, and problem solving.
Technical Constructability/Project Administration of Project Individuals/students that show an interest and capability to “build buildings on paper” and develop a further understanding of technical drawing, specifications, materials, and architectural detailing of buildings, as well as building code implications on design.
It is our strong belief that the combination of these two skills produces the “initial” understanding of architecture. It is important to begin this foundation at the onset of the intern’s experience. It involves time, passion, patience, and hard work.
Our interns are involved in design projects and the technical production of these design solutions at a team level. Our focus, being a small office, is to integrate interns into the highest level of decision making, design, technical production, and client interaction (when suitable) which may involve:
- Design production working under a team leader and/or project architect
- Design solution renderings, diagrams and animations
- Presentations to and for project architect. Involvement in team/client meetings
- Project detail assessments, as-built conditions
- Project technical assistance and development, construction documentation, specifications, and research
Our goal is to provide a well-rounded experience aiding in the intern’s assessment and determination of his/her future career interests and focus.
Interns must exhibit complete command of the Adobe Creative Suite and other means used to communicate architecture across media formats. Knowledge of Auto-CAD, Revit 2017/2018 and/ or Sketchup and Microsoft Office is highly recommended.
Summer internship and semester long interships are welcomed.
